About UsOur Mission, Goal and Creed
LIGHT – Learning Is Gathering Homeschoolers Together.
formerly Long Islanders Gathering Homeschoolers Together
LIGHT is no longer one cohesive homeschool information group. Since our registered articles of Unincorporated Association include a group as a voluntary group, members felt it was best to split into various groups in order to begin charging fees. Since we are not equipped to broker these payments, collect taxes, nor send out 1099s for any amounts collected over the year, the administration thought it best to let the individual groups handle this on their own.
LIGHT is now reorganizing to be a resource for homeschool information. If you have a service, a business or group that caters to homeschoolers, please use the contact page to let us know.
LIGHT is a secular grassroots non-profit organization directed by member consensus. The common interest of our members is home-education and homeschool information. The purpose of this organization is to offer information, organize activities for members by members (and their children and families), hold meetings that support members in their home education choice and help members to introduce themselves to one another. All services are provided through the unpaid volunteer efforts of the members. All members are invited to attend business meetings or send written opinions.
GOAL – To Provide Homeschool Information
Our goal is to offer the Long Island area a stepping stone in which they can:
- gain homeschool information
- network with other home schooling families
- create cooperative learning opportunities
- create home school choice support
- collectively direct the culture of the group
LIGHT is a secular organization. We welcome people of all faiths, belief systems, religions (or lack thereof), ethnicity and abilities to come together as fellow home schoolers as long as they do not infringe upon the right of other members with differing beliefs. Our members peacefully coexist under the umbrella of home schooling.
LIGHT’s vision is to ensure that all families are aware that homeschooling in the United States is a legal, viable option as an educational choice.
